Immerse Yourself in Art

Special Tours with Collectors & Curators at Pittock Mansion

On Saturday, September 13, 2008 the Pittock Mansion will host special tours of the exceptional exhibit of turn-of-the-century Oregon artist William Samuel Parrott currently on display. The show includes 40 works by one of Oregon’s best landscape painters, the most Parrott paintings ever shown in one place at one time. The exhibit not only reflects the art movement of late 19th century America and early Oregon, but the special genius of one man’s vision quest which, transcends his time.

For this tour, curators Diane Cazalet and William S. Stallings will walk visitors through the exhibit to put forth why Parrott is so much more than just a local exponent of the romantic realism of luminary artists such as Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran. They will spark discussion of Parrott’s place in art history and Portland’s peculiar attitudes about its own artists, leaving the visitor will leave with ample food for thought.

The special tours will be offered at 1:00 p.m. and at 2:30 on Saturday, September 13th. Cost for the special tour is $12 and also includes admission to the Mansion self guided or guided tour. The cost is $4 for Pittock Mansion members. Please reserve your place in advance by calling 503-823-3624.
